HALIFAX Welcomes SailGP Participants
Halifax & Dartmouth Waterfronts Buzzing
USPA NEWS -
Get ready for a thrilling weekend as over 1,000 athletes, team members, and families converge on the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts for an unforgettable sailing competition from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, made possible through a dynamic partnership between the municipality, the Province of Nova Scotia, and Sail Nova Scotia.
During this period, downtown area motorists should prepare for heightened traffic congestion and plan their commutes accordingly. The public is encouraged to take advantage of free competition viewing along the Halifax waterfront. Paid viewing opportunities are also available through various vendors. Argyle Street will be closed between Carmichael and Prince streets each evening to host complimentary post-race concerts from 6 to 10:30 p.m. For additional information, please visit: downtownhalifax.ca/sailgp.
Halifax Transit’s Alderney and Woodside ferry service will experience daily disruptions from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. during the competition. Shuttle buses will connect Woodside (Friday only), Alderney and Water Street terminals, substituting ferry service during these hours. Additional details can be found at halifax.ca/htdisruptions.
As Halifax Harbour is once again transformed into a world-class racecourse, recreational boaters are urged to emphasize safety as they prepare for time spent on the water. The Marine Safety Handbook serves as your comprehensive guide to rules, protocols, and preparedness for safe and responsible navigation. Help maintain a safe Harbour environment for everyone, both on race day and every day. For more information, please visit https://www.porthalifax.ca/boat-safely-during-sailgp/.
